I'm Robin Verlangen. I work as a fractional CTO, software architect, and AI & LLM engineer, helping startups and scale-ups build engineering cultures, solid architectures, and teams that ship.

This blog is where the longer thoughts go: architecture decisions and the reasoning behind them, what running AI systems in production actually costs, and the parts of engineering leadership that don't fit in a short post.

Work I take on

Alongside the fractional CTO seat, two engagements come up often enough to name:

Technical due diligence for M&A. Buy-side and sell-side. I read the code, the architecture, the security exposure and the team, and write up what a buyer is actually acquiring: what breaks under growth, what breaks under attack, what breaks when one specific person leaves, and what of it is a post-close rebuild cost. Independent, and blunt about the parts that are expensive.

Penetration testing and security review. Finding what breaks under attack before somebody else does: auth boundaries, secret management, dependency hygiene, input validation, and the assumptions that only held at last year's scale.
